Question by MCM Lexi: How should I care for my Pyracantha “red cushion” bonsai tree?
A few days ago, I received a Pyracantha bonsai tree as a gift. The labeling says it is an outdoor bonsai, but the conditions outdoors in some parts of the country/world are a lot different than the conditions outdoors in other parts of the country/world! Also, the tree is apparently supposed to have berries now (in the fall), but it doesn’t. The berries seem like the would look very pretty, so I’m hoping I can get them to show up this season.
I live in Illinois, and around this time of year, temperatures usually reach about 40 to 50 degrees Farenheit in the daytime and fall into the 20s or 30s at night. Should I leave the tree outside, even in freezing temperatures? I saw on a website that you’re supposed to keep it sheltered during freezes, such as in a garage, but it also needs sunlight (which it can’t get in a garage). It’s going to be freezing all winter — where am I supposed to keep it?
If I AM supposed to keep it inside, will it still get berries and flowers?

I keep all my hardy bonsai outside in the winter, they are in a sheltered spot against a building and covered with leaves. Once in a while I check on them to make sure they don’t need watered. They are semi-evergreen, so probably won’t loose their leaves. If you are worried about it, bring it in when the temps drop below freezing, keep it in a cool sunny place and water it only minimally through the winter,(but don’t let it dry out completely) stepping up the watering when it starts to growing in spring. If it puts on flowers in the spring, it should have berries in the fall.

Wow! You’re getting some strange advice. NEVER bring it in the house……NEVER!!!!!! Do whatever you have to do to keep it above 30º, but let it get down to 30º often. It doesn’t need sunlight during the winter, so an unlighted garage is good. You may want to read the Bonsai Care page on my site:

Question by : I need a seat Cushion…?
I need a seat cushion for a little extra back ‘support’. I’m 4’10 and drive a Toyota yaris, and the way the seats buckle in I have a bit of back pain on long drives. I took a regular seat cushion and have it behind me which is supportive and helps me to see better, but I’m looking for a seat cushion just like that but isn’t for someone with a diagnosed back problem. I just need a little something to keep my back from going in to far into the seat and to prevent some of the pain that i feel on longer drives. Do you know any websites/products that aren’t meant for diagnosed back problems? I just need something like a seat cushion off of an outdoor chair that covers most of the back of the seat. I need suggestions on how to phrase a search in google, or if you have recommendations of products that would be great!

Simply buy a pillow insert size 24″ x 24″ or the more popular cushion insert know n as euro size 26″x 26″ , these pillow forms when sat on a few times and not fluffed up will stay flat and suitable as a seat cushion You can spend a little more and buy a down feather pillow insert it will not be as plump. however it will cost you about double

My boyfriend found a brand new loveseat recliner by the dumpster that only has a rip in it. It matches our set perfectly so Id like to try to fix it. It is about 1 1/2 inches looks like an “L” The material is microfiber suede so it is thin if I were to only ser it i think it might end up ripping from the needle holes. Any help would be awesome

try a glue for fabric . you may want to cut a piece of fabric from the back that would match and glue it in place .this glue can be found in a craft store .

Question by Family Woman: Did anyone cushion surface a peice of their backyard, so your children can play and wont fall hard?
im talking about that cushion surface they have in parks and schools. I want to know how much it would be to do 12×17 peice in my backyard. i want to put a play swing and such there for my son and in any case avoid a major accident in case he falls??
btw its not grass its dirt. which i have to get covered because of allergens that run in this family. i was thinkn about cement but now i would rather do a cushion because i have to cover it up anyways, so i rather make use of that spot

i did, i’m crazy about that stuff. well, i just used mulch, i think they recommend a few inches. we framed off the area with wood and then put down weed blocker and filled it in around the swing set. Every once in a while i go out there with a rake and ‘fluff it’, I’m sure next spring I’ll add more. I don’t know if it helps or not, but it made me feel better. I don’t know how big our space is but I prob spent about $ 300 on mulch. I hope that helps.
